Shakira to Sign a $60million Three-album Deal with Live Nation & Sony

Shakira performs during the Latin Grammy awards in Los Angeles      Colombian superstar Shakira is said to be on the verge of signing a $60 million deal with Sony and Live Nation for the singer’s next three albums.     NewYork posts reports Live Nation’s three-album Shakira deal with Sony could be worth as much as $60 million with the two partners agreeing to split sales.      The deal will have the two companies teaming up to release shakira's new albums together while sharing profits from sponsorships, merchandising and recorded music. Sony is expected to handle distribution.       In July 2008, the Colombian songstress left Sony’s Epic label for a 10-year deal with Live Nation valued between $70 million and $100 million. Shakira was among a handful of superstars, including Madonna and Jay-Z, to ditch their traditional record backers and sign huge rights deals with Concert Promoter Live Nation in recent years.   

Singer Shakira Attacked by Sea Lion in South Africa

I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them doing a baby talk while taking pictures... Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralyzed by fear and couldn't move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother "Super Tony" jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast. President Obama appoints singer Shakira to Education advisory panel

     Columbian singer /songwriter  shakira has been appointed by president barack obama to his Advisory commision on Educational excellence for Hispanics, along with a a series of Democrat-affiliated advocates and boosters. Shakira got  her slot on the educational commission in part because president obama is ramping up his outreach to Hispanics by promoting Hispanic celebrities.      Shakira’s appointment follows Obama’s recent description of another diva, Lady Gaga, as a leader of the gay and lesbian communities.      Shakira is also involved with educational issues in her homeland through her Barefoot Foundation, and has worked to ensure students in Haiti and South Africa have access to nutritious meals as well as educational and psychological support services.

Latin Grammys name Shakira person of the year

    Organizers for the Latin Grammys, the top honors for Latin music, on Monday named Colombian superstar Shakira as their person of the year to be feted at the group's annual awards show in November.      Shakira, who was nominated for three Latin Grammys this year including album of the year for her "Sale el Sol," will be given the award not only for her songs and performing but for philanthropic work through her Pies Descalzos Foundation.    "We are honored to pay homage to this dynamic, socially conscious woman whose illustrious career has touched so many people around the world, both musically and personally," Latin Recording Academy president Gabriel Abaroa, Jr. said in a statement.     Shakira, 34, rose to fame as a singer in the early 1990s combining rock, Latin and Mediterranean music with her own original dancing -- a feature of Shakira's that eventually manifested itself in the smash hit single, "Hips Don't Lie."

Shakira is the latest artist to release a fragrance. The Colombian superstar has bottled a new perfume called S by Shakira. The scent will hit stores in September and will range in price from 17 to 35 dollars.

Pop Star Shakira Prepares To Build School in Haiti

Colombian pop star Shakira met child survivors of Haiti's earthquake on Sunday as her charity prepared to build a school in the disaster-stricken Caribbean country. The singer, who has already joined Hollywood actors and other global celebrities to raise funds for the victims of the January 12 earthquake, flew into the wrecked Haitian capital Port-au-Prince aboard a private jet. At the planned site of her Barefoot Haiti school, she met about a hundred children, some of whom danced to her songs. She then toured a camp housing nearly 50,000 people on a golf course. There, she met U.S. actor Sean Penn, whose own charity is also helping victims. "We've come to make all the preparations to be able to start the building of a Barefoot school here in Haiti," Shakira told Reuters in a brief interview.
