Chaka Khan to Perform Whitney Houston's tribute at Apollo Theatre

Chaka khan & Whitney houston     Grammy award-winning singer Chaka Khan will perform a tribute to the late Whitney Houston at the Apollo Theater's gala and awards ceremony.      The historic Harlem theater confirmed Friday that the "I Feel for You" singer will perform in her friend's memory. Lionel Richie and the late Etta James will be inducted into the theater's hall of fame during the June 4 gala.      Soul Train creator Don Cornelius and songwriter Nick Ashford will also be honored posthumously. Richie's first Apollo appearance was in the early 1970s. The "Hello" singer says he's thrilled to be chosen for the hall of fame. James was known for ballads like "At Last." She performed at the Apollo in 1957 and again in the 1960s. Past inductees include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin.

Apollo Theatre to Induct Lionel richie,Etta james into Hall of Fame

     Singer-songwriter Lionel richie  and the late Etta james  will be inducted into the apollo theatre's hall of fame in New York City.The ceremony will be held at the historic Harlem theater on June 4.    Richie performed with The Commodores at the Apollo in the 1970s.  James' versatile style included blues, soul, jazz, R&B and rock. She's known for ballads such as "At Last" and "Trust in Me." She performed at the Apollo in 1957 and again in the 1960s.    Her last album, "the dreamer" was released just three months before her death on Jan. 20. She was 73.   Past Apollo Legends Hall of Fame inductees include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson,  Aretha Franklin  and Patti Labelle.
