Apollo Theatre to Induct Lionel richie,Etta james into Hall of Fame

     Singer-songwriter Lionel richie  and the late Etta james  will be inducted into the apollo theatre's hall of fame in New York City.The ceremony will be held at the historic Harlem theater on June 4.    Richie performed with The Commodores at the Apollo in the 1970s.  James' versatile style included blues, soul, jazz, R&B and rock. She's known for ballads such as "At Last" and "Trust in Me." She performed at the Apollo in 1957 and again in the 1960s.    Her last album, "the dreamer" was released just three months before her death on Jan. 20. She was 73.   Past Apollo Legends Hall of Fame inductees include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson,  Aretha Franklin  and Patti Labelle.

     Hundreds of mourners gathered at a Los Angeles-area church on Saturday to remember rhythm-and-blues singer  Etta James , saying she overcame great personal and professional hurdles to sing "the times that she lived."     During a two-hour service that featured performances by pop stars  Stevie Wonder  and  Christina Aguilera , the  Rev. Al Sharpton eulogized James as a woman who rose from a tough childhood and poured her pain into her music. Aguilera performed a version of "At Last," James' show-stopping hit and best-known song.      James died at 73 at a  Riverside, California , hospital on January 20 from complications of leukemia, prompting numerous tributes from artists and musicians who were influenced by her work, including  Mariah Carey  and Aretha Franklin. Etta James Funeral Plans Announced,Al Sharpton to Eulogize

 Singer Etta james funeral plans have been released .A  public viewing  will be held Friday for singer  Etta James , and the Rev.  Al Sharpton  will eulogize the late legend at a  private funeral  Saturday.    A statement from Sharpton's representative Tuesday said the funeral will include performances by celebrities, but those names were not announced. James died last Friday at age 73 after battling leukemia and other ailments, including dementia. She was most famous for her classic "At Last," but over her decades-long career, she became revered for her passionate singing voice.    The public viewing will be held in Inglewood and the funeral will be held in Gardena, both in the Los Angeles area. The family is asking that any donations be sent to the Philadelphia-based Rhythm & Blues Foundation. AP

Legendary Singer,Etta James Dies at 73

     Legenday singer Etta james  whose assertive, earthy voice lit up such hits as "The Wallflower," "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and the wedding favorite "At Last," has died.     The 73-year-old died on Friday at Riverside Community Hospital from complications of leukemia, with her husband and sons at her side, her manager, Lupe De Leon said.      She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, and also suffered from dementia and hepatitis C. Etta won 6 Grammy awards in her lifetime.
