     The Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee has chosen Genevieve Nnaji's 'Lion Heart'  to represent Nigeria for the 2020 Academy Award for Best International Film.       This is the first entry ever for Nigeria. Lion Heart, released in 2018 had been previously acquired by streaming platform, Netflix.     We hope the movie wins the award category!

    Eddie Murphy is dropping out as the host of the Oscars telecast, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences said Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the show’s producer, Brett Ratner, stepped aside amid a storm of criticism over his use of an anti-gay slur.          Mr. Ratner, who was named the Oscar co-producer on Aug. 4, resigned on Tuesday morning because of the furor provoked by his public use over the weekend of an anti-gay slur, and a subsequent, salacious discussion of his own sexual habits on Howard Stern’s radio program. Mr. Murphy on Wednesday followed Mr. Ratner — his friend, and the director of his latest film “Tower Heist” — out the door.    "I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well," Tom Sherak, the president of the academy, said in a statement.       Producer and director Gilbert cates, who oversaw a record 14 Academy Awards ceremonies and founded the Geffen playhouse in Los Angeles, has died. He was 77. Cates collapsed on the UCLA campus Monday evening. Emergency personnel responded but were unable to revive him, officials said Tuesday. The cause of death was not immediately known.      Cates last produced the Oscar telecast in 2008, when the ceremony was almost sidelined by the Writers Guild strike.     He is survived by his wife, Dr. Judith Reichman, four children, two stepchildren and six grandchildren.

     Academy Award-winning actress and h ollywood superstar, Angelina Jolie's  directorial debut"In the land of Blood and Honey" trailer has been released . "The film is based on  the Bosnian War- A story based on how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living inside a war derived from a  love story between a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman on the eve of the 1992-95 Balkans conflict, in which 100,000 people died.     Jolie pulled the cast from the area, choosing unknowns rather than A-listers with Eastern European accents. Two versions of the film exist, one in English, the other in the native Serbo-Croatian. The film opens December 23 and, from the looks of the trailer and its release date, "In the Land of Blood and Honey" could spell another trip to the Academy Awards for the first-time director.
