CAF Awards: Ghanian journalist shades Wizkid costume

The organizers of the just concluded CAF Awards has been berated by a Ghanaian journalist and prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP),Asare Otchere-Darko, for sidelining Ghanaian artistes during the event. Darko who was at the event took to his Facebook wall to express his disappointments with the performance of Nigerian born singer, Wiz-kid adding that CAF decided to crowd the stage with only Nigerian singers. He said: “Almost a perfect programme at the CAF Awards soiled by lack of local content. But why, they couldn’t find any Ghanaian musician? Pathetic! . ”Instead of treating us to some good Ghanaian performances, as well, CAF decided to populate the stage with Naija ones plus others, including a Nigerian artiste who was dressed as if he lost his way to the gym. I hear he is called Wizkid.”

Yaya Toure named African Footballer of the Year

   Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure has been crowned the new African footballer of the year beating Mali’s Seydou Keita and Ghana’s Andre Ayew to the CAF African player of the year 2011 during a ceremony held in Accra yesterday .       The 28-year old player has been inspirational for Premier League leaders Manchester City and scored the winner against Stoke City in the FA Cup final to claim their first major title since City’s League Cup victory in 1976.    Nigeria's Austin Jay Jay Okocha was also awarded 2011 Legend Award .

   The Confederation of African football has  released the list of nominees of this year's GLO-CAF Awards.The list which was compiled  through a vigorous exercise was released in cairo ,Egypt last Wednesday .    Former captain of Super Eagles, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha , Super Eagles winger, Ahmed Musa of VVV Venlo of Holland,  former African Women Player of the Year, Perpetua Nkwocha ,  were among the  nominees     Okocha was nominated  for the Legend Award while Perpetua Nwokcha who distinguished herself at the last African Women’s Championship in South Africa was nominated for Women Footballer of the Year.     Musa, who played for the Flying Eagles at the last World Cup in Colombia, and also featured for both the national U-23 side was nominated for Most Promising Talent of the Year Award.    The winners will be announced at the Awards Gala on Thursday, December 22, at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra, Ghana. © celebregion
