Do you really have the swag?

It’s about time someone addressed this issue don’t y’all think???...Like Ice Prince Zamani said in overkilling remix; ‘All I Hear Is Swagger Now When I Put on a Deck’! This is soooo true!

These days it seems like every musician out there in Naija with his jeans sagged low , wearing sunglasses ‘shades’ , with loadz of ‘blings’ on his neck and his ear , Bouncing has swag….*HISS *..The word is used loosely by everyone nowadays on the streets, T.V, on radio...Even by children *smh* and most pple who use it haven’t even got the slightest idea of what it means. So the question now is; what is swag?? Check Ur dictionary people (yup it’s an English word!)...I’ll tell u what it’s not; it doesn’t mean having loadz of money or having the best clothes, whips..E.T.C as y’all might like to think But the dictionary meaning means to “sway unsteadily”...In most dictionaries u actually find only ‘swagger’...swagger means to walk with a proud gait or stride often in an attempt to impress others OR act in an arrogant manner and sometimes it means ‘bluffing’…Guess a lot of y’all ddnt know this right??OKAY, enough with the English lesson *hehehe* let’s talk informal here;

            The first time I heard the word ‘swagger’ used, it was used to describe one time American 100 mtrs Olympic gold medallist MAURICE GREENE. He was sometimes referred to by his teammate’s n commentators as ‘Maurice swagger’. Now, I understand why! It was coz of his confident stride before every race; he walked n acted like he had won the race already n when he did win……his swag increased to over a 100%...lol. But I guess when you talk about swag in the sense of ‘kanye , T.I ,Jay Z , Lil Wayne’s no one in the corner got swagger like us’ (yea yea yea )It has a lot to do with confidence and having a very strong personality that sets you apart from every regular ‘Tom , Dick and Harry’..it could also mean you bluffing about something that isn’t ‘ordinarily’ done n actually doing it! It has a lot more to do with personality than physical attributes and this is where most naija peeps get confused n think it has to do with having millions of naira, tons of panda….*Ermm sorry I meant to say ‘blings’…coughs* , designer clothes , shinny cars e.t.c….basically , The confidence  n stride is what defines the swag as opposed to the physical stuffs you have (for instance the creator of facebook is a billionaire but doesn’t have swag! See what I mean)

          So I’m not against musicians that go on n on about swag or people who claim to have swag but the point is this….double check your personality….do you really have swag????*raised eyebrow*
