Jailed Vybz Kartel Ordered To Pay $15 Million For Missed Concert Appearance

The Supreme Court has ordered a default judgement of roughly $15 million against jailed Jamaican star Vybz Kartel in relation to him failing to honor an agreement to perform in the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2009.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was ordered by the Supreme Court to pay Jamaican promoter Alton Salmon for breach of contract. Salmon, who promotes under Abuka Entertainment, said that there was a riot at the venue on August 14, 2009 after Kartel failed to appear and suffered significant losses.
The popular artist had been in custody since October 1 after being charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of a firearm following the deaths of Clive 'Lizard' Williams in August and Gregory Park in July.
