One on One with Goldie

Goldie is not new in the scene,we sat down with her to know more about her music and her upcoming album coming out under kennis music label,Enjoy the interview.

Can we get to know Goldie?

Goldie is the Artiste version of Oluwabimpe Susan Harvey; hailing from ikole in Ekiti state...First born of my parents, born in Lagos

A lil bit about your educational background?

I attended Green-springs Montessori school, Anthony for my primary school education, Saint John’s college Palm-grove, for my secondary studies, and I have a degree in Business management from the university of Sunderland UK

How did you start singing?

I’ve always been into entertaining even as a kid, I was always involved in church plays/school dramas...been singing since I was little as I was a member of my church’s junior choir... I’m more of a writer, been into fictional writing since my teens... I generally have had a very artistic flair since I was young; singing, dancing, drawing, writing, and the like...Entertaining professionally started for me in Nigeria with the release of my debut video “Komole” in 2007.

Why the stage name Goldie?

I was born a “Ginger albino” lol...with red hair, red skin and freckles...highly sensitive to sunlight...My friends in the UK nicknamed me Goldie, cuz of the color of my skin...I later took on the name as a stage name cuz it came to mean so much to me, gold is rare, is precious, every1 wants a bit, or a lot of it, lol..And it’s also very expensive and can be used to define all things good. I wanted my brand to stand for all these qualities and more.

You are now signed to Kennis music ,how did that happen?

Well, I’ve been working with Kennis music since December2009, I approached the company for a management and recording deal, cuz I felt that they were the only entity in Nigeria that could properly manage my brand and take me to the next level professionally. The deal was a bit tentative at first, but by April/May 2010 we, (both parties) made it official.

And whats the deal like?

Well, the deal is very favorable to both parties, but I really don’t see it as a deal as such... I see myself as being part of a family... Mr Kenny Ogungbe, and Mr Dayo Adeneye are like big brothers and I’m grateful to God and to them every day that they decided to take me on... (It’s a recording/publishing/management deal) Minimum of 3 albums...

Talking about your new song and video (You know it) with Eldee ,how did the collabo happen?

The collaboration was the brain child of Mr Kenny Ogungbe himself...He gave eLDee a call and asked him to produce and feature on a track... Mr Kenny is a genius...

Whenever you perform live on stage,you put in all your energy which is very encouraging,do you take something before performing?
I don’t take anything oh! I’m usually surprised when peeps say I use a lot of energy, I think its cuz I do a lot of exercising and aerobics in my spare time and that shows on stage. I also think when I put on my performance costume, something takes over; A new entity I’d like to call Queen G! Cuz she’s in control, strong, confident..lol...


When is your album dropping?
My album is dropping Sept 1st... It’s called GOLD


How many tracks ?
We’ve recorded over 30 tracks so far, but I think we’re going to end up with the best 12 or14.


Awards so far?
None yet, but plenty nominations.

Many people term your style of dressing as lady gaga's style,how do you cope with that?
I feel flattered by the comparison. I think Lady Gaga is cool and sexy; though I’m not sure I see myself as crazy or as outrageous as she is; but if people want to compare me with a famous international icon, then I’m more than grateful...


Married,single or divorced?
 I’m in a relationship, that I’d like to keep private, thanks.


What else do you do when you are not making music?
 Music right now, is a 24hr business for me... I have no time for anything else.


What do you have to tell your fans? 
The album drops september1st! It’s a classic, featuring collabo’s with Jaywon, Femi, Eedris Abdulkareem, BankyW and Baba Keke himself. It’s a must buy...
