CityPeople Entertainment Award holds July 18

City Media Group, publishers of City People Weekly, City People Quarterly, Fashion and Style Digest and Today’s Fashion, will on Sunday, July 18,  stage the second edition of the much-talked about City People Entertainment award. Scheduled to take place at the multipurpose hall of 10 Degree Even Centre, Oregun, Lagos, over 20 music and movie stars will be honoured with an award based on their effort in the past one year.

This year’s award, according to the organisers is dedicated to the memory of  late rap star, Olaitan Olanipekun, popularly known as Da Grin, who died on April 23, 2010 due to injuries sustained after a ghastly motor accident, on the Agege motor road, Mushin, Lagos.

Mr. Seye Kehinde, publisher, City People, told reporters last week that “this year’s award will be quite different from what has ever been experienced in Nigeria.“

“City People Entertainment was initiated in 2004 and since its inception, we have done over 500 events, partnering with over 200 companies as our own little way of contributing to the growth of entertainment in Nigeria. City People Entertainment awards was conceived in 2009 with the objective of having music, movie and comedy stars gather under one roof, for one purpose. People are used to music or movie awards, but we are encompassing all and we are very proud to be the only outfit that has taken the giant step to do it.

“Last year, we had the debut edition in Abeokuta, but this year, the award will hold in Lagos. This year, much is expected from us because of the stunt we pulled last year and I must say categorically that we will not disappoint.  We have dedicated the award to Da Grin not only because the talented rapper died at his prime or had an effect on the lives of millions of Nigerians but also because he was very close to City People Entertainment. He performed in over 10 of our shows and was regular in our corporate office for one reason or the other.

“He was a very humble and pleasant person, so we thought he deserves it all and should be celebrated, even in death,” Kehinde said.
