Exclusive interview with Sasha

We had an interview with the First Lady of Nigerian rap music Yetunde Alabi popularly known as Sasha pee,she talked on how she started her rap career,being under storm records ,and her upcoming album.Enjoy the interview.

Can we get to know Sasha pee?

S: Sasha is a young Nigerian woman who dares to dream BIG and strives to make an indelible mark in this generation through positive, motivational and fun music!

Tell us a bit about your Educational Background?

S: I'll keep it short (lol) I went to four primary schools , International School Ibadan (ISI) and graduated with a Law degree from the University of Lagos (UNILAG)


When did you start your rap career?

S:My career started in 2001 but my first recording contract was signed in 2002, So I'd say I'm 8 years in now (laughs)


.Who are the people that inspired you?

S: Wow! I have a long list! I was mostly influenced by Tupac Shakur but I grew up in a very musical environment so I drew inspiration from a lot of genres, I love the Motown music era and in Nigeria around the time I started I was a big fan of the Trybesmen.

S: hahahaha Not at all! There's no reason for a competition, each femcee has her own unique style and audience and our co-existence is wiping out the myth that there are no female emcees, aside from that, this is hip hop and in the context of the song "making money" when you attain a level of getting paid royalties for everything that comes out then you"re definitely "making money" so it's more about being confident in your talent to the point where you know you're bank able!

You are currently with storm records ,what can you say about being under a label like that?

S: It definitely feels good to be part of a team that works! We have a great vision and a lot of passionate people so its a good relationship.


What are the challenges so far?

S: Challenges are achievements waiting to be conquered, so I'm learning everyday and attaining a higher level of professionalism nothing comes easy!

Awards so far?

S: Most recent is the "Best female" at the Channel O awards 2009 and I'm also nominated in the "Best hip hop artiste in Africa" category for the 2010 Kora Awards ,wish me luck!

Single ,engaged or married?

S: Single

What else do you do when you are not making music?

S: I have a clothing label "Eclectic by Sasha" when I'm not making music I'm designing ,buried in a book (laughs), watching a movie or just having some "me" time!

When is your new album dropping?

S:Anytime from now, its in the final stages so official dates will be released soon.

Who are the artistes featuring on the album?

S: Naeto, Sauce-kid, Omawumi,Mo Cheddah, YQ to name a few , I'm very proud of the quality of music coming out.


What message do you have for your fans worldwide and how can they get in touch with you?

S: We're living in increasing challenging times so I'd like to encourage everyone to welcome change but not let go of their values..Adara!
