Paul Play’s Ex-Group Mate Tony Tonero Dies In Car Accident

Tony Tonero, the former Oxygen singer who appeared prominently on Paul IK Dairo’s late nineties’ hit ‘Mo Sorire’, is dead.

The singer’s friend and former bandmate Slam tells NET he has just been informed, by another groupmate Swave that their friend and longtime partner has pased on.

Tonero reportedly died in an auto accident, yesterday in Lagos.

‘Our friend Swave just called me now, that Tony is dead. Paul was the closest to him; he’s the one that confirmed it. The last time I saw him was at a friend’s wedding’ last November’, Slam tells NET.

Unlike Slam and Paul, Tony Tonero did not enjoy the benefit of a fruitful music carer – his failed solo project failed to kick off, despite many tries. He frequently worked with Paul Play as a back-up act.

Before Tonero’s death, all four friends were considering working on a reunion album for their rested group Oxygen.

The late act will be mostly remembered for his part on Paul IK Dairo’s remake of ‘Mo Sorire’ (originally composed and performed by the late IK Dairo). He was a close friend of Paul, with whom he recorded and performed.
